Wash Day Routine!

Finally I have decided to do a post discussing natural hair and the way that I take care of mine. Today I'm just going to take you on a step by step tour of how wash days usually go for me!

1.
"As I Am" Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner
I wet my hair in the shower and use a pretty good amount of this stuff to detangle and get it ready to be washed. I also treat it like a shampoo by massaging it into my scalp and ends.

2.
"Proclaim Argan Oil" Intensive Moisturizing Shampoo
Since I've heard how damaging shampoo can be to your hair and I've already co-washed, I only shampoo my hair once. I continue to detangle and massage my scalp to stimulate growth (and get rid of dandruff).

3.

"TreSemme" Keratin Smooth Conditioner
"Beautiful Textures" Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner
Tonight I decided to deep condition my hair and sit under the dryer for 30 minutes. I used my regular conditioner and mixed it with my deep conditioner, put on a shower cap, and used my dryer. If you do not have a dryer you can put on a shower cap and wrap a towel around your head for 45 minutes to an hour. This generates some heat so the conditioners can do their job.

4.

[From R to L] "Alikay Naturals" Essential 17 Hair Growth Oil; "Shea Moisture" Curl Enhancing Smoothie; "Beautiful Textures" Tangle Taming Leave In Conditioner
After I rinse out the conditioner, I put a good amount of leave in conditioner in my hair and run my fingers through. I also add in some oil and cream since I'm about to twist my hair.

5. Finally, I twist my hair so that it can dry overnight and be ready to go in the morning!

Random Tips and Tricks:

  • Use a t-shirt instead of a regular towel to dry your hair to retain some moisture.
  • Detangle your hair while the conditioner is in it using a wide tooth comb. This is especially important for all of you ladies with thick and unruly hair like mine. The wide tooth comb detangles without breaking.
  • When taking out your twists in the morning use an oil or frizz control oil to leave your hair looking shiny and fresh.
  • Another really good thing to try is a protein treatment instead of deep conditioner. These retain your hair's elasticity!
I hope my simple routine gave you ideas of products or techniques to dry. Be sure to check out my Instagram page to see how my hair turned out!
